A look into our microfilm past

Before digital, before the cloud, there was microfilm!

We recently uncovered an incredible piece of Genus history dating all the way back to the 70s, A book in a book!

Encased inside a cover made from a microfiche copy of John Cleland’s Fanny Hill, this unique piece of promotional material is filled with technical drawings, handwritten notes, and even a few witty cartoons about life during the groundbreaking era of microfilm.

Beyond bringing light to how revolutionary microfilm was for many industries; this handmade piece of promotional material also shows the personal touch that Genus has always brought to our work and our relationships with customers.

For us here at Genus, microfilm was where it all began, and these little cartoons remind us just how far we’ve come in preservation and innovation.

Although we’ve proudly become leaders in digitisation, today we are selling more microfilm than ever and continue to champion this “old but gold” analogue technology.
