In February 2025 we made the announcement that Fujifilm planned to discontinue the manufacturing of silver microfilm and that Genus had an alternative microfilm in place. Six months later it is time for an update on the situation.
Fujifilm are accepting last orders in December 2025. As the exclusive master distributor for Fujifilm microfilm for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and the main distributor for Asia and South America, Genus have been given a very generous allocation of films that we can purchase all the way until December 2025. This allocation has been based on our previous purchases and should provide us with enough stock to last well into 2027.
However, we do advise you to contact us and place orders before December 2025 in order to ensure this allocation does not run out on various products. We will be holding some stocks but, as this is both financially and physically difficult to do, we advise that you hold your own stocks too. Anything not ordered by December 2025 will not be available any longer.
The good news is that development on our new replacement film, under the Genus Ozaphan branding, is going very well. Our plan is to not only offer all 8 of the Fujifilm products that will be discontinued but add two more microfilm products to the range to make a new and larger range of 10 silver microfilms. The two new products are already being manufactured and are available for immediate sale – welcome back 105mm x 55mm and 35mm x 305m original camera film:
These are the proposed ten film specifications for 2026:
Original Camera Film
16mm x 30.5m, 35mm x 30.5m, 35mm x 305m (NEW) and 105mm x 55m (NEW)
Archive Writer Film
16mm x 30.5m and 16mm x 66m
Negative Duplicating Film
16mm x 310m and 35mm x 310m
Positive Duplicating Film
16mm x 310m and 35mm x 310m
The development work on emulsions, slitting, rewinding, spooling and packaging on the other products is developing well and we hope to launch the remaining 8 products in early 2026.We wanted to get this message out to reassure people that the microfilm industry is alive and well and will be well supported by new microfilm manufacturing capability.
This all takes a lot of planning and development. Therefore, please contact us with your microfilm requirements over the next few months and years, both for stocking up on existing Fujifilm microfilm and for transitioning to our new Genus Ozaphan microfilms. We will continue to supply our microfilms worldwide and are looking for clients and sub distributors in all countries.
We also have a full range of Diazo duplicating films, chemicals, spools and boxes. To see our range of consumables, click here.
