
Richard brings over 40 years of experience in the photographic industry, with the majority of that time spent in the Cultural Heritage sector. Alongside this, he is a qualified Medical Photographer and continues to work closely with the Medical Illustration sector through his current professional commitments.
In addition, Richard holds several notable positions within the wider professional community:
Richard joins Genus from Wellcome Collection, where he served for over 30 years as Head of Photography, leading a team responsible for the photography and digitisation of a wide range of collections. He has also worked at the British Library and Christie’s auctioneers as a photographer.

- Trustee Board Member at the Museum of the Broads
- Member of the Government Trailblazer Group for the Photographic Apprenticeship Standard
- Former Chairman of the Association of Historical and Fine Art Photographers (AHFAP), where he was responsible for a committee and 350 members, as well as the governance and strategic direction of the association
Richard also has extensive experience lecturing and speaking professionally on a wide range of photography and imaging topics, and is an active member of both the Institute of Medical Illustrators and the British Institute of Professional Photography.
This combination of deep technical expertise, sector leadership, and commitment to professional development makes Richard a strong addition to the Genus team as we continue to support our clients in preserving, imaging, and sharing their collections.
